Arts Council England has today announced that Victoria Dela Amedume MBE has been appointed as the newest member of its London Area Council

With vast experience in London’s arts and culture sectors, Victoria is the founder of Upswing, a multi-award-winning contemporary circus company that works to expand the possibilities of circus as an art form. She has created and directed large-scale ‘headline’ events for festivals, projects in found spaces, theatre projects working with older people in care homes and outdoor touring work for town centres.

In addition to her role at Upswing, Victoria is Creative Director at The Albany, and was involved with shaping the programme for the Mayor of London’s London Borough of Culture 2022 in partnership with Lewisham Council. She is an Associate Director at The New Vic Theatre, Chair of The Baring Foundation Arts Committee and a trustee of the Coutts Foundation. In 2022, Victoria was awarded an MBE for “services to circus”.

Victoria will work with other members of our Area Council to use her experience, expertise and unique voice to help support artists and cultural organisations. She will be joining those with expertise amassed from London borough councillors to the Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries.

Tonya Nelson, Area Director, London, Arts Council England said: “We are delighted to welcome Victoria as the newest member of our London Area Council. She has an outstanding body of work that includes founding Upswing, one of the Arts Council’s National Portfolio organisations, as well as working on London Borough of Culture 2022. She will join a dynamic team of individuals with a wealth of experience across the arts and culture sector to help shape our work as we move forward with our strategy, Let’s Create.”

Victoria Dela Amedume MBE said: “I am honoured to be joining the London Area Council. With the challenges on the horizon for Arts and Culture, I feel energised and committed to join working with my new colleagues to support how the delivery of Let’s Create can create the strongest creative landscape for London.”

Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, Justine Simons OBE, said: “Victoria Dela Amedume MBE is a fantastic addition to Arts Council England’s London Area Council. I look forward to working together to support London’s artists and cultural institutions, helping them to thrive and build a better and more vibrant London for everyone.”
