In October, we announced the organisations offered funding through our 2023-26 Investment Programme, benefiting arts organisations, museums, and libraries in every corner of the Midlands - from Buxton to Bilston, Leicester to Ledbury, and Chesterfield to Mansfield.

As part of our new National Portfolio 2022-26, we want more people in more places to have access to fantastic art and culture on their doorsteps, and we’re investing £2.4 million in three creative and cultural organisations in Mansfield. This forms part of our longer-term plan to invest more money in the town as part of the Levelling Up for Culture priority, to increase investment and engagement in the arts and creativity.

Joining the portfolio are three organisations which will receive regular funding for the first time:

  • Mansfield Museum who host exhibitions, community projects and educational programmes, helping local people discover Mansfield’s unique stories and bring them to life.
  • Mansfield Palace Theatre a touring venue which brings theatre to the heart of the town through live shows, an annual pantomime, local dance schools, youth and amateur theatre.
  • Unanima Theatre brings young people and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities together to use devised theatre to explore themes and issues relevant to everyone. Through experimental styles and storytelling, they co-produce work that challenge audiences to think differently about disability.

Investment will continue to support Inspire (Culture Learning, Libraries) which delivers services across Nottinghamshire, including public libraries in Mansfield, bringing music sessions, family theatre shows and drawing festivals to communities.

Creative People and Places programme First Art, also works in Mansfield, bringing people together through choosing, creating and taking part in arts experiences in the places where they live. First Art has a great track record of working with people to create high-quality cultural experiences, such as The Full Shebang Festival in Mansfield town centre.

Peter Knott, Midland Area Director for Arts Council England, said: “With our increased investment in Mansfield over the next three years, we want to make sure that even more people can share in the benefits of great arts, creativity and culture.

“It’s our job at Arts Council England to make sure everyone can feel the joy of culture in their lives, and we look forward to working with the people of Mansfield and Nottinghamshire to do just that.”
