About the programme

About the programme

Museum Development is delivered by five Area partners.

The Museum Development programme supports the development of individuals and organisations through a range of training, advice, information, data insights, initiatives, programmes and small grants.

The programme directly supports the delivery of the UK Accreditation Scheme for museums and galleries in England.

More than £19 million has been invested by us in the Museum Development programme between 2018-2024.

Accreditation scheme

We want all museums to be sustainable, focused and trusted organisations, which offer their visitors a great experience. The Accreditation Scheme sets out nationally-agreed standards, which inspire the confidence of the public and funding and governing bodies. It enables museums to assess their current performance, as well as supporting them to plan and develop their services.
