Leadership, workforce development and skills in the arts, creative and cultural sector: Evidence Review

Arts Council England commissioned Consilium Research and Consultancy to undertake an assessment of leadership, skills, and workforce diversity and development in the arts, creative and cultural sector.

The key questions that the review seeks to answer are:

1. How has the sector progressed with regard to leadership, workforce development, workforce diversity and skill levels since 2010?
2. How does this progress compare to other sectors in the economy?
3. What new and innovative models of workforce development are other sectors adopting, on an international level, to ensure their workforces are prepared for the challenges of an increasingly global economy?
4. What challenges will the arts, creative and cultural sector face over the next ten years around workforce recruitment, progression, retention, skills development and continuing professional development? How does this compare with other sectors in the economy?

This report provides a summary of the evidence, and highlights key themes within the evidence base to inform Arts Council England’s future strategic priorities.
