This report evaluates the Canvas project, a multi-channel network for the arts supported from 2015-18 with Arts Council funding. Its purpose was to provide an online showcase destination for arts video content whilst also supporting arts organisations to develop their capacity to produce high quality video content that was relevant to online audiences.

The project had three core aims:

  1. To make arts video content more discoverable and engaging to audiences
  2. To increase the number and range of people engaging with the arts, both online and offline, and the depth of this engagement
  3. To develop the skills and digital capacity of the arts sector and increase the volume and quality of creative media.

This report assesses the degree to which Canvas met these aims and highlights key learnings that might inform future arts sector projects focussed on online video and on digital skills development
