n/a
Date: | 11 September 2020 |
A data report analysing experimental high streets data by Ordnance Survey (OS), and our own survey of Arts Council funded cultural infrastructure across England. This report shows that:
- Cultural buildings are located at the heart of our high streets, with 75% of buildings used by Arts Council England being on or within a 5-minute walk of a high street
- Culture can help support our local economies by creating jobs, with over 300 cultural venues and buildings located in unemployment hotspots
- Cultural venues provide additional amenities for the public, that help contribute to the growth of the local visitor economy, with nearly a quarter of cultural organisations having a café, bar or bookshop (or a combination of all three) onsite.
