Spiltmilk Dance is set to bring the magic of a trip to the seaside to people living in residential and care home settings across Midlands and South Yorkshire, supported by Arts Council’s National Lottery Project Grants.

Somewhere on Sea is a performance piece for those who share a passion and fond memories of a Great British beach holiday, giving people the chance to relax and take a creative vacation together.

Performed in care settings with live music, dance and singalongs, the show combines nostalgia of holidays gone-by and modern-day memorabilia to conjure the smells, sounds and joys of the seaside for residents who cannot visit the coast, whether due to health or mobility issues. It will also give people who have been isolated throughout the Covid19 pandemic the chance to socialise and take part in something creative, having a positive impact both physically and mentally.

Peter Knott, Area Director for Arts Council England, said: “Creativity has the power to help us explore the world around us, recall happy memories and connect us through shared experiences.
“We’re really pleased to be supporting Splitmilk’s project through our National Lottery Project Grants, and hope it will give those living in care settings space to reminisce, socialise and enjoy the benefits of a trip to the seaside without having to step outside the front door.”

Adele Wragg, Co-Artistic Director at Spiltmilk Dance, said: “We are super excited to take Somewhere on Sea into care homes this Summer. Not being able to visit care home settings and share moments of joy and creativity for so long has been challenging. It will be so special to be able to dance, sing and laugh along with residents safely, and infuse some magic and colour, to lift everyone’s spirits!”

Performances are set to take place in summer 2021 at care settings in Worcestershire, Birmingham, the Black Country, Leicestershire and South Yorkshire. Find out more here
