The Conversation

In spring 2018 we launched The Conversation, which aimed to facilitate a genuine conversation convening the widest range of individuals and organisations on their views about the future of arts and culture in England over the next ten years.  As part of the Conversation we also commission Pyramid of Arts to help us think about the future for artists with and without learning disabilities. View the findings > (PDF, 6.4 MB)

To help inform the Conversation, we commissioned Experimental Culture: A horizon scan (PDF, 5.52 MB)

Evidence review

Arts Council England has undertaken an assessment of the current evidence base around the place of arts and culture in health and wellbeing and in the criminal justice system.

During 2017/18 we commissioned four research reports, to better understand how children and younger people participate and enjoy arts and cultural activities across England.

Consultation on shaping the next ten years

Consultation on Shaping the next ten years

From 1 October 2018 to 2 January 2019, we held our first consultation on Shaping the next ten years, our draft strategic framework.

We also asked members of the public what art, creativity and culture mean to them, to help us consider what it will take for our country to become a truly creative nation.

What next?

What next?

In January 2020 we published Let’s Create, our Strategy for 2020-2030, setting out our Vision for the next ten years alongside three Outcomes and four Investment Principles. This comes into effect on 1 April 2020.

The Strategy will be accompanied by a Delivery Plan, which we expect to publish in April 2020.
