Why are we piloting a Youth Advisory Board?

Why are we piloting a Youth Advisory Board?

When we developed our strategy, Let’s Create, we spoke to hundreds of children and young people, to understand their creative lives and how we could better support them.

Their opinions made such an impact on us that we decided to create a Youth Advisory Board. This means we can continue to listen to children and young people, and for their ideas to help shape the future of our organisation. Our Youth Advisory Board will be in post from September 2021 – July 2023 and will meet monthly both in person and online. We’re working with three fantastic youth organisations to help us manage the pilot of our Youth Advisory Board.

What our Youth Advisory Board do

What do they do?

We’re led by members on the projects and policies they’d like to work on.

They have the opportunity to engage in a range of activities and tasks that directly connect to the Arts Council’s policy and programme development. To this date, this has included opportunities such as;

  • Taking part in consultation work by listening to other young people and hearing their views
  • Advising staff in the organisation and stakeholders on key policy areas
  • Making recommendations by speaking at National Council meetings and presenting thoughts on key policy areas
  • The opportunity to engage in arts and culture across the country whilst developing their skills, knowledge and network

See the links below to find out more about each member and read their blogs on how they are making a difference.
