Cllr Peter Tomlinson

Peter started broadcasting in his final year at Oxford University as a sports reporter for the Home Service of the BBC. He went on to join HTV in 1968 as a presenter and announcer, moving to Granada Television in early 1971. In late 1972 he was ATV’s weekend host and it was during the February of the next year that he came up with the idea that was to become Tiswas. Peter presented the programme with Chris Tarrant until the end of 1977.

 

In 1979 Peter became the Managing Director of Beacon Radio in Wolverhampton steering it out of the crises it found itself in. He helped to form JTA in 1988 which specialised in helping companies communicate more effectively internally. In 2000 he was asked to become part of the  SAGA bid for the third regional commercial radio franchise in the West Midlands. Having won that bid Peter took the station SAGA 105.7 fm on to the air in 2001. In  2005 Birmingham Children’s Hospital offered him the challenge of Director of Communications, Marketing and Fundraising.

 

In 2008 he became a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of West Midlands. In May this year he was elected as a Councillor on Wychavon District Council for the ward of Ombersley in Worcestershire.

 

In his spare time he is an enthusiastic though jazz drummer.
