Peter Mearns
Peter was born in Dorking, Surrey, is a graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University and started his career with BBC Manchester as a production assistant. He has worked in a number of high profile marketing and communications roles for The University of Manchester, Manchester City Council, Birmingham City Council and Herefordshire & Worcestershire TEC, Chamber of Commerce & Business Link. Between 1999-2010 he was an Executive Director at the Northwest Development Agency with responsibility for Marketing & Communications. He led the development of major award winning national and international marketing programmes for the Northwest and instigated and directed the regional major events programme. He now operates as an independent Marketing & Communications Advisor specialising in strategic marketing and communications, arts, tourism & business development, media and brand management, public affairs and major events. Peter is also an exhibiting photographer. His non-executive positions are: Deputy Chair of Arts Council England, North West; Chair (acting) Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester; Tate Liverpool; Liverpool Biennial; Foundation for Art & Creative Technology (FACT); Chester Performs; Chester Festivals and the Aerial Trust, Liverpool. He is also chair of the London 2012 Torch Relay Steering Group for the North West.
