Professor Eric Cross
Eric Cross was educated in Norwich and read music at Birmingham University before joining the staff at Newcastle University, where for many years he was Head of Music. After several years as first Dean of the Faculty of Arts and then Dean of Undergraduate Studies for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, he is now Professor of Culture and Music, and Dean of Cultural Affairs – a unique role in UK universities involving fostering links between the university and the north east in all areas of cultural activity. He chairs the universities for the north east's Culture Committee, and is a board member of various cultural organizations, including Arts Council England North East, Northern Cultural Skills Partnership, Northern Stage and the Tyneside Cinema. He also conducts two of the region's leading choirs - the Newcastle Bach Choir and Cappella Novocastriensis.
