James Conway
James Conway was appointed General Director of English Touring Opera in 2002. Previously, he has been an opera consultant to the Arts Council of Ireland and director of Opera Theatre Company, the Dublin-based Irish national touring company. Under his leadership the company gained an international reputation for innovation and excellence.
James'own opera productions have toured world-wide to critical and popular acclaim. He also a strong interest in orchestral and chamber music and in 2011 he founded the Old Street band, a London-based period orchestra specialising in theatre music. He has served on the boards of dance company Fabulous Beast and umbrella organisation Opera and Music Theatre Forum.
James is a dedicated theatre-goer, and has a strong interest in contemporary art and architecture. For the last decade he has profited from the fascinating, diverse cultural offering in London, and acquired an understanding of the regional impact of art generated in London.
