Cllr Ian Cartwright
Commissioned from the Royal Military Academy, Ian has enjoyed a long military career and served in UK, Germany, Singapore, Crossmaglen in Northern Ireland The Gulf and in Oman where he was awarded an MBE and a medal by the Sultan of Oman (the Distinguished Conduct Medal (WkhM)). Ian and his wife, Elizabeth, retired to her home village of Ruskington, where he continues to serve the community. Ian was elected to the County Council in 2001 as the Councillor for Ruskington and Cranwell and also North Kesteven District Council in 2003 as member of the ashby ward. At County He chaired the waste and economic development Policy Development Groups and was a member of the childrens Services and policy overview committees.
He became involved in culture matters as a member of Museum, Library and panels. He also served as a member of the County adoption panel. He was appointed Chairman in 2008. He retired in 2009 but continues to be a member of North Kesteven District Council (NKDC). During his military service he enjoyed amature dramatics and was an active member of the Abu Dhabi Drama Society and the Singapore Services Drama club appearing in a number of productions. At NKDC he is currently Vice Chairman, a member of planning and finance committees and the new North Kesteven Culture Panel made up by County and District Councillors-a new venture. He has been a Governor of Cotelands school before it became part of St Georges Academy but continues as a Governor of the Winchelsea school in Ruskington.
