Cllr Catharine Arnold
Catharine Arnold read English literature at the University of Cambridge and holds a further degree in psychology. She is a writer and broadcaster and the author of five books including Necropolis London and its Dead, Bedlam London and its Mad and City of Sin, London and its Vices. A fourth book in the series, Underworld City of Crime is out in July 2012.
In addition to writing Catharine is a keen supporter of the arts and culture in Nottingham and nationally. She is a member of the Nottingham Playhouse board and enjoys classical music, opera, theatre, arthouse cinema and the visual arts.
As Executive Assistant for Culture and Tourism with Nottingham City Council, Councillor Catharine Arnold is committed to promoting access to the highest quality arts and culture for everyone. As a Councillor this has included major art exhibitions at Nottingham Castle and Art Gallery, most recently the 'Anish Kapoor: Flashback' Exhibition (November 2011 to March 2012) and the 'Living in Silk' Exhibition (March to September 2012), which forms part of the national London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, 'Stories of the World'.
Councillor Catharine Arnold is a keen supporter of promoting the use of Libraries, including events being held in them. She has spoken about her writing and books at both Nottingham Libraries and in other areas of the country.
