François Matarasso : Chair
François Matarasso joined the Council in October 2005. He is a freelance writer and arts researcher, specialising in community-based cultural activity and its role in people’s lives. He worked for 14 years as a community artist, mostly in the East Midlands and it is this experience that led him into his areas of research. Since 1994, he has focused on project support and research, exploring the connections between arts ideas and practice. He has undertaken recent research into the arts in rural areas, including village hall performances, and helped manage Living Heritage, a major community cultural programme in south east Europe.
