Area Executive Director, East and South East
Andrea Stark was appointed to Arts Council England's executive board in September 2009 and took up the post in April 2010.
Andrea arrived in the East of England in November 1999 to take up the post of chief executive of the Eastern Arts Board. Over the next 10 years, she led a highly successful investment strategy that included generating over £125 million in funding for a series of world class arts centres. The Royal Opera House Production Park located in Thurrock, Thames Gateway, is the latest in a portfolio of arts-led regeneration projects that Andrea has spearheaded.
As arts chief for Dundee City Council (1995-1999) and the City of Sunderland (1988-1995), Andrea led major projects to position the arts as part of the councils' economic development strategies. In Dundee, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre was the largest National Lottery project in Scotland at that time. In Sunderland, the City Library and Arts Centre and National Glass Centre were key to the city's urban regeneration.
After completing postgraduate studies at University of Birmingham, Andrea's early career was as a director of youth and community theatre in London.
