Become a member of the London Area Council

The London area council is seeking one new member. Our area councils advise us on our policies and practices and make a limited number of funding decisions.

These are voluntary roles where you’ll be expected to champion arts and culture within your networks and help shape the area’s arts and culture ecology. You’ll need a demonstrable interest in and working knowledge of arts and culture in London, a commitment to our mission and good links within London. We are particularly interested in hearing from individual artist or producer from a diverse background.

Council membership can last up to three years, with the possibility of reappointment.

You’ll need to be able to attend up to five meetings spread throughout the year and other events.

Closing date: Midnight, Sunday 21 February 2016

You are invited to apply by: 

  • Completing the application form OR by submitting a letter and/or CV which covers: 

- your name & contact details

- the name of the area council you are applying for (i.e. London) 

- your employment, public appointments and qualifications

  • a supporting statement describing how you meet the criteria for appointment listed in the person specification 
  • the names and contact details for two referees
  • any conflicts of interest you may have with Arts Council England or which may arise if you were appointed
  • Completing the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form

Become a member of the South East Area Council

We are looking for an individual who:

  • has a strong knowledge of arts and culture, and commitment to promote the value of arts and culture in society
  • has a commitment to Arts Councils mission Great art and culture for everyone
  • has a strong knowledge and understanding of the Creative case for diversity
  • is able to act as advocates for arts and culture on a local and national level
  • has a specialist knowledge of;
    • a particular art form;
    • the museum, libraries and/or music education sector;
    • education, regeneration, broadcasting, training, tourism, business and other fields relevant to arts and culture or;
    • are practicing artists;
  • has a knowledge and understanding of the South East area
  • lives or has work interests in the South East area

As part of our ongoing commitment to equal opportunities and diversity, it is important that the Arts Council properly reflects the communities we serve. We welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds as they are currently under-represented in the South East Area Council membership.

This is voluntary roles, with expenses reimbursed in accordance with the Council Members’ expenses policy.
