Lawnmowers Independent Theatre Company
What is Schools for Fools about?
The Lawnmowers project is testing a number of factors, including capacity building within the organisation by skilling up young learning disabled people to work with others.
They are also looking at the use of Commedia dell Arte with learning disabled people and specifically at giving the participants the opportunity to take control of their own visibility and comedy.
The main aims of Schools for Fools are:
- to run taster Commedia workshops to young people with learning disabilities and recruit a “Fool Ensemble” from these participants who will then undertake a 10-month training programme where they will learn Commedia skills
- the 'Fool Ensemble' will devise, perform and tour with a professional Commedia Theatre Company
- to run a ‘School for Fools’ Festival in May 2008 targeting under 25s from the learning disabled community in Gateshead where the 'Fool Ensemble' will run Commedia workshops using the skills they have learnt
