20 Stories High
What is Dark Star Rising about?
This pilot project is designed to work with young people from specific areas in Liverpool, targeting a percentage of Black and minority ethnic participants.
The project uses hip-hop, mask and puppet making as the medium for engagement. It will also have an impact on the development of this youth theatre company as a resource for young people from key areas in Liverpool.
The main aims of Dark Star Rising are:
- to create a groundbreaking piece of hip-hop mask/puppet theatre exploring Liverpool’s grime culture and how it connects with global traditional folklore and storytelling. This will be created in collaboration with artists from 20 Stories High’s professional show Babul and the blue bear
- to engage young people from Black and minority ethnic communities, and other ‘hard-to-reach’ communities
- to firmly establish 20 Stories High youth theatre: a resource for young people from the inner-city Liverpool areas of Toxteth, Picton and Kensington
