As part of the Digital opportunities programme (2008-11), we commissioned several pieces of research.
Phase One consisted of: a 'content snapshot' showing the current level of provision of work in digital formats by our funded organisations (MTM London), a survey of audience attitudes to digital work (Synovate), and a paper reviewing the evidence for audience engagement with digital work (Arts Council).
Phase Two consisted of: an assessment of the material held digitally by our regularly-funded organisations (BBC/Arts Council) and a more detailed report into online audiences for the arts (MTM London).
This research was commissioned so that we would be able to build up a picture of arts audiences for digital work and find out where the main opportunities were for organisations to exploit their work digitally. It also gave us a more detailed understanding of the main barriers to organisations working in this way.
