Arts Council England is contracted to deliver the Government Indemnity Scheme on behalf of the Department of Culture Media and Sport in support of public access to loans and exhibitions.
It is a pre-condition of UK Government Indemnity that the borrowing institution receives national security advice and approval for the exhibition venue. National institutions, which lend also seek reassurance about the security conditions for loans.
If you are planning loans under GIS or loans from national institutions or have ambitions to borrow such works, contact email@example.com
The assessment your venue receives will be a risk assessment-based approach, considering known risks and seeking appropriate mitigating solutions. Threats to collections will vary from criminal acts to accidental damage by people or natural elements and environments. The measures which are reviewed as part of an assessment include: buildings and surroundings; access; workforce numbers and integrity; technological solutions and object protection.
There are a suite of current resources about risk management and security for collection-holding organisations available at: www.collectionstrust.org.uk/security
