Through highlighting best practice, supporting improvement, running schemes such as Accreditation and Designation, and working to boost leadership and workforce skills, the Arts Council aims to help museums and libraries achieve excellence.
Accreditation Scheme UK museums
The Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for museums in the UK. The Standard supports museums in identifying opportunities for further improvement and development. There are currently over 1,800 museums participating in the Scheme, demonstrating their commitment to managing collections effectively for the enjoyment of our communities. We will be announcing our plans for the scheme in autumn 2011.
Designation scheme
The Designation scheme identifies the pre-eminent collections of national and international importance held in England's non-national museums, libraries and archives, based on their quality and significance. These inspiring collections represent a vital part of our national cultural and artistic heritage.
