Commissioning

The way local authorities meet the needs of the communities that they serve is changing. The shift from delivering services to commissioning services to meet needs presents opportunities to work in partnership to find new ways to ensure great art for everyone.

The key considerations for arts organisations wishing to engage in commissioning are:

  • their position in relation to the community, users of services, other organisations that deliver services, and strategic partners like local authorities
  • finding evidence for the impact of their work on meeting outcomes and contributing to the well-being of communities
  • effectively communicating the value of their work in ways that commissioners can understand
  • quality and efficiency - ensuring that they can appropriately demonstrate safeguarding of vulnerable groups, accreditation of their work and value for money
  • developing the capacity to respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by commissioning

The pages in this section contain useful resources for organisations that are interested in taking on commissioned work.
