14-18 NOW is the official cultural programme for the First World War Centenary commemorations. Events will be taking place across the country throughout 2014 and beyond.
14-18 NOW is an independent programme hosted within Imperial War Museums. It is part of the First World War Centenary Partnership, which brings together over 2,500 members from across 45 countries to present a collective programme of activities and events to mark the centenary. Throughout the centenary new events and activities will be added each week to the events calendar, produced in partnership with Culture 24.
The programme is funded by £5 million of lottery funding from the Arts Council, £5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £250,000 from the DCMS. The team is liaising with Creative Scotland, Arts Council Wales and Arts Council Northern Ireland. It is undertaking general fundraising to raise at least another £5 million.
In addition to the 14-18 NOW programme, Arts Council England is also funding various First World War arts and culture projects through Grants for the arts, Exceptional awards and museums Strategic support funds. Commissions are ongoing.
Call for proposals
14-18 NOW, WW1 Centenary Art Commissions, has announced that it is seeking a wide range of new proposals for extraordinary new art commissions to be created in response to the centenary of the First World War.
The search for new proposals follows the success of 14-18 NOW’s first wave of commissions which reached at least 16.7 million people over the eight weeks leading up to 4th August, the centenary of the day Britain entered the First World War.
