Trust New Art is a three-year programme of contemporary art taking place at selected National Trust historic houses, countryside and garden properties across England. It is supported by a partnership between National Trust and Arts Council England, which aims to connect more people to National Trust sites through contemporary art, while diversifying the audience for art.
Aims of the project
Trust New Art supports events and projects that are developed to make contemporary art and crafts an integral part of the National Trust's offer to visitors. This aims to build new audiences, provide commissioning opportunities to both emerging and established artists and to encourage new ways of looking at heritage settings.
The Trust New Art programme runs from 2009-12 and includes:
- a programme of temporary visual arts and crafts commissions and exhibitions
- the development of partnerships with artists and arts organisations
- arts-based organisational development for National Trust staff and volunteers
The Arts Council also funds the post of Contemporary Art Programme Manager at the National Trust.
