Record-Play

1 September 2008

Record-Play is a London based music consultancy working with new musicians, helping them to make a career out of what they love doing.

The organisation started when it's founders noticed an opportunity to help fledgling bands and artists hone their skills and prepare themselves, their music and their image for the music industry and public.

Since then they've launched the Artist Development Programme, an independent support initiative aimed at providing essential skills and assistance to musicians in the crucial early days of trying to make it big. As Johnny Mauchline, Programme Manager explained:

‘The programme's not about just getting some cash or a single release, but rather about working alongside some of the best names in the industry to learn first-hand how to cut through the noise to make and market music effectively and successfully.'

Every six months, following a rigorous selection process, one lucky band can expect to benefit from a package of resources and money worth well over £20,000. The package includes:

Recording a two track cd at Sarm Studios London, where the likes of Coldplay, the Prodigy, Muse, Gorillaz, Radiohead, and Oasis have recorded; Art Direction from award winning design agency Jawa-Midwich; Band photo shoot with published portrait photographer Andre Penteado; Professional website design; Cd or vinyl pressing; Live audio and video recording; Music video shoot; Press support from Somefriendly PR; who look after I am Kloot, XX Teens, the Verve, Badly Drawn Boy; Digital release support from an online record label; A live showcase at one of east London's leading live venues; Financial support of £1,500.

So, if you think you have the talent, commitment and originality, then enter! It's very straight forward, all you need to do is get the following together:

  • A CD containing 3 tracks that you have produced
