End Of The Road Festival

1 October 2008

Congratulations to the winners of our Most Musical City competition: The Affection, The Electric Tape Recorder, and BB and the Dead Dog all played storming sets at The End Of The Road Festival in Dorset in September!

The bands entered a competition earlier this year to represent their most musical city and play in front of 5,000 people at the festival. They faced stiff competition, but after much deliberation they were selected by our panel of music industry experts.

The Take it away team pitched it's tent, got into the festival spirit, and were blown away by each band's performance. Liverpool's The Affection did the winning city proud and played to a rapt audience in a jam-packed tent. They surged through their half our set, and kick started the day nicely!

Runner-up city Sheffield was represented by The Electric Tape Recorder. Sometime solo artist, Phil McDonald was joined by his band for this performance, and they played with all the assurance befitting an outfit who have supported the likes of The Inspiral Carpets and The Avalanches. After the festival Phil told Take it away:

"End of the Road festival was amazing! Great bands, nice weather and wonderful people. I can speak for myself and the rest of the band when I say it was a defining moment for all of us. To play in front of a captive audience who had no preconceptions of trend was brilliant. A big thank you goes to the people who gave us a listen, Sofia and Simon who run the festival for taking the time to pick up on a little band, and not to forget the Arts Council for all the hard work put in over the last couple of months. We had a great time and we hope to do it again".

BB and the Dead Dog represented the 'best of the rest' of the entries, and did a sterling job. The band clearly loved every minute of their performance, and lead singer Bianca Bohl later said:

"We all thought it was such a great Festival, for real music lovers, and I loved all the other acts playing. My band, who hadn't heard of the Take it away scheme, are all excited and will get some musical instruments! I think its really great you guys gave us a chance to play to so many people and plenty of the audience have contacted us on Myspace. We so hope to come back next year!"
