Voting has now closed

London is one of earth’s great cultural melting pots: a clash of styles and people resulting in scenes, fashions, looks and sounds. The reason you should vote London the Most Musical City is about more than just bands and artists. We’ve also got orchestras, some of the world’s greatest music venues, a history of musical theatre and everything in-between from garage to grime emerging out of the city’s network of boroughs. But, let’s talk pop first…

Swinging London was the epicentre of the sixties thanks to The Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and Cliff Richard. Chelsea’s King’s Road saw The Sex Pistols and Vivienne Westwood give birth to punk in 1976 while David Bowie was killing-off Ziggy Stardust at Hammersmith Palais and Pink Floyd were giving the world Prog-Rock. The Clash and The Jam remain an inspiration to this day helping give us bands such as The Libertines and Razorlight. Unfortunately, we don’t have room to list all of the more than 220 number ones produced by Londoners.

London, unlike some of our rivals for this title, is about more than just pop. The capital’s array of classical venues from the Festival Hall to Royal Opera House and Albert Hall are home to everything from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to the Last Night of the Proms, an international celebration of music which has spilt over into Hyde Park. Earls Court, Brixton Academy and Hammersmith Apollo are amongst the legendary venues catering to millions of music fans each year and they have now been re-joined by Wembley Stadium – home to probably the most famous concert ever: Live Aid.

With everything from street performers to pop stars, composers to opera singers – London is a city swimming in music and you should vote it the Most Musical.”
