What do you get if you cross the BBC Concert Orchestra, the national development agency for professional orchestral music 'Orchestras Live' and a large number of young people in Norfolk? The answer is MusicMix!

Coming to Norfolk in March 2010, the BBC Concert Orchestra will be treating over 3,000 10-14 year olds to a series of four amazing concerts as part of MusicMix.
Presented by BBC Radio 1’s Nihal Arthanayake and conducted by Australian Matthew Coorey, the concerts will explore orchestral music from the 18th Century to the present day, including popular film and TV music that is very much part of the BBC Concert Orchestra’s work. Live images of the orchestra and film excerpts will be projected onto large screens, enabling the audience to see right into the heart of the orchestra.
But its not just the professionals that will be performing - the young people get the opportunity to take part too. Several groups of young musicians will perform alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra including a youth choir in the world premiere of a new version of Harry Patch by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, and a young rock band will perform One Day Like This by Elbow. And those people watching the action from their seats won’t be able to get away from a bit of audience participation either. The audience also get to sing a new song, which teachers will help them to prepare through training sessions and learning resources provided in the project.
MusicMix is a collaboration between the BBC Concert Orchestra, local authority partners and Orchestras Live. Orchestras Live was responsible for initiating and co-producing the highly successful Making Tracks tour with the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2008 which saw more than 7,000 7-11 year olds attending concerts at the County Showground, Norfolk. And luckily for the young people of Norfolk, the partners have decided to come together once more for MusicMix 2010!
The concerts will take place at The Corn Exchange, King's Lynn on Wednesday 17 March, and at Hippodrome Circus Theatre, Great Yarmouth on Thursday 18 March, with two concerts taking place on each day.
