NUMU

1 Dec 2009

NUMU, the free platform for students to showcase their own tracks, and feedback and collaborate on others, has teamed up with the Royal Opera House to bring you the Fanfare competition. Open to 11-14 year olds, the mission is to compose a 30 second fanfare that will let people know the big show is about to begin. The winners will see their track arranged by the composer in residence and recorded by the Royal Opera House Orchestra. Entries will be accepted up to 12 February 2010.

All you have to do is write a 30 second track that really packs a punch and grabs people's attention. You can write for any instrument you want, but we’re told that the judges want to be surprised. The key is to put your heart into it and try and capture the listener's imagination.

The winning entries will be chosen by a panel of Royal Opera House composers, conductors and professional musicians. Each winner will have the opportunity to attend a workshop and arrange their fanfare with a professional composer for the Royal Opera House Orchestra. The fanfares will be recorded by the Orchestra and used as the front of house announcement sounds, to herald the start of a performance.
