g39 is the leading artist-led organisation for contemporary art in Wales. Part gallery, part community and part resource, it is a welcoming space for audiences. Despite its small size the public gallery has become a highly respected part of the UK artist-led scene and a direct line for audiences to access Cardiff’s cultural scene. The organisation sees its role as a ‘bridge’ between the artist and the public, and a key component of the curatorial rationale is bringing contemporary work to new audiences.

From the outset g39 has commissioned and presented innovative and challenging contemporary work. Its activity is widely acknowledged as a crucial element in the cultural networks of Wales and the rest of the UK and is highly acclaimed.

The space now has an ongoing exhibition programme and also produces artists’ publications, offsite projects across the city, and other activities. Many artists who have previously shown here have gone on to win major prizes and awards including Bedwyr Williams, Nadia Hebson, Simon Blackmore and Tony Hall.
