Highlights include Charlotte Hughes Martin's highly detailed engraved glass bottles based on the nursery rhyme Ten Green Bottles, Miranda Sharpe's exquisite necklace with moving parts made with ten feet of silver wire and Jim Sadler's limited edition of ten oak candle holders.
Alongside the work in the exhibition visitors can also discover how to commission a piece of craftwork. With details on how to research and approach a maker and information on how artists go about developing a piece from the brief to completion, the exhibition tells you everything you need to know to get started.
Own a piece of the exhibition!
On the last day of the exhibition, August 26 2009, 4.30 - 8.30pm, a silent auction will be held where you can bid for a work in the exhibition.
Those interested in bidding will be asked to fill in a slip of paper with your contact details, the name of the piece of work and your bid (all the items will have a reserve price, which will be the minimum that someone can bid for the piece).
Bids will be placed in a sealed box and at a fixed time towards the end of the evening the names of the highest bidders will be announced. Payment for the piece will be taken at this point, or an application to make the purchase using an Own Art loan can be made, and all works can be taken away on the night.
Bilston Craft Gallery hopes that this event will help raise the profile of craft and encourage the buying of craft - by both attracting existing craft buyers who may not have been to the Gallery before and also encouraging existing visitors to buy craft.
To secure your exclusive place please RSVP to bilstoncraftgallery@wolverhampton.gov.uk quoting Silent Auction OA/10.
