Susan Hosking
Susan Hosking has a very different approach to collecting. Her focus has been largely on editions (including photography editions) and she buys from a multitude of sources including art fairs, degree shows and publicly funded art spaces.
Buying editions can be a good way to afford work by high profile artists such as Cornelia Parker, Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst and others. Susan once bought a work by Gavin Turk who advertised an edition in the paper for 20p for those people who could get to Tate Britain early enough.
She has also bought at fundraising auctions, which can be a great place to pick up the occasional bargain: The Drawing Room hold biennial silent auctions of works on paper and the Whitechapel Gallery has recently held several auctions in the gallery and via Sotheby's.
Susan is from New Zealand and still has lots of work by New Zealand artists at home but felt once settling in London that her focus should be on artists based here. She has received a number of pieces as gifts from friends who know of her interest.
