The Leeds Art Walk is a whistle stop tour of a selection of exhibitions being held in the city.

The walks, which are free and take place on the first Wednesday of every month, offer the opportunity to meet fellow art lovers and experience some of the best visual art being shown in Leeds in the company of an expert guide.

The Leeds Art Walk is a collaborative project led by Pavilion, an Arts Council England, Yorkshire regularly funded organisation, and Project Space Leeds.

The most recent walk visited the Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery at Leeds University, the Howard Assembly Room, and Leeds Art Gallery to see winning and shortlisted work from the third annual Northern Art Prize for contemporary visual artists.

Contemporary artists of any age, working in any media and living in the North of England are eligible for the prize, which this year was won by Pavel Buchler.

The Northern Art Prize exhibition, which runs until 21 February, also features work by shortlisted artists Nick Crowe, Ian Rawlinson, Rachel Goodyear and Matt Stokes.

The first Leeds Art Walk was held in February 2009 and has visited a wide range of diverse organisations showing visual art in the city, from large established galleries to new contemporary art spaces.

One regular described the walks: 'Coming on the Leeds Art Walk I find it interesting to see such a range of art work – I usually visit historic exhibitions but the walk has introduced me to some great contemporary work in Leeds as well. I have been to some new venues too – Pavilion, Project Space Leeds and the Design Innovation Centre. The walks are a great idea!'

Pavilion, a visual arts organisation that collaborates with artists to research and produce new work, has a public gallery in Leeds with a rolling programme of exhibitions and events.
