Grants for the arts in the capital

  • Date: 6 May 2008
  • Region: London

Grants for the arts awards are for individuals, arts organisations and other people who use the arts in their work. They are for arts-related activities that benefit people in England or that help artists and arts organisations in England to carry out their work. Grants for the arts awards now range from £1,000 to £30,000 for individuals and from £1,000 to £100,000 for organisations and are funded through the National Lottery. They offer individuals and organisations new opportunities to expand their artistic activities and can also fund national tours, enabling them to reach new audiences.

Grants for the arts
The Grants for the arts award scheme was launched in February 2003 and distributes money from the National Lottery and from government.

It invests in the arts across England by making grants available under five aims:

  • to change people’s lives through the opportunity to take part in or experience high quality arts activities
  • to increase opportunities for cultural diversity in the arts. By ‘cultural diversity’, we mean the full range and diversity of the culture of this country. In some cases our focus will be on race and ethnic background, and in others on disability, for example
  • to support excellence, new ideas and activity to help build long-term stability in arts organisations
  • to invest in the creative talent of artists and individuals
  • to increase resources for the arts
