Taking place at Somerset House, Origin provides a unique opportunity to buy contemporary craft directly from 300 of the finest makers, with work ranging from functional tableware and sculptural glassware to classic knitwear and innovative jewellery and millinery.
Beginning on 16 October 2009, 17 designers from the West Midlands region will be showcasing their work, many of whom are first time exhibitors. Six of the new designer makers received funding towards attending Origin from Arts Council England's Grants for the arts.
In July, officers from the West Midlands led a short session on applying for Grants for the arts funding for Origin. The session, supported by previous exhibitor Kathryn Partington, was made to the majority of the first time exhibitors from the region and resulted in strong applications with £14,199 being awarded in total.
