A number of our Unlimited commissions were shown in Liverpool between 21-31 August as part of DaDaFest 2012. We took the opportunity to make some short films about three of those commissions while they were being presented in Liverpool. You can now watch and listen to those films and find out more about the Unlimited projects of Laurence Clark, Fittings MultiMedia Arts and Rachel Gadsden.
Laurence Clark - Inspired
Comedy show asking why everyday activities are inspirational when they're done by disabled people.
Fittings MultiMedia Arts - The Ugly Spirit
Siamese twins The Bellamy Sisters on a never-ending theatrical tour: a new play by Russell Barr.
Rachel Gadsden - Unlimited Global Alchemy
Artists Rachel Gadsden and the Bambanani Group explore the psychology and politics of HIV/AIDS.
Unlimited was a project at the heart of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad that celebrated the work of Deaf and disabled artists on an unprecedented scale. We made awards to 29 artists and arts organisations to enable Deaf and disabled artists to push boundaries and deliver ambitious work, which has been presented to audiences across the country and internationally. As part of the London 2012 Festival, all 29 commissions were brought together in a unique 11-day celebration from 30 August-9 September 2012 at the Southbank Centre. Find out more about Unlimited here, part of the Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival.
DaDaFest is now the most comprehensive and challenging festival of Disability and Deaf Arts in the world and this year it ran from 13 July-2 September at venues across Liverpool. The festival programme included the exhibition Niet Normaal: Difference on Display at the Bluecoat, the Unlimited commission previews, and a variety of other performances. DaDaFest brings an array of international artists to share their work which entertains, provokes, challenges and inspires audiences. Find out more about DaDaFest 2012 here.
You can also watch the Push Me Collection, a series of short films about the Unlimited artists pushing themselves to reach unattained goals, on The Space, our free digital arts service developed in partnership with the BBC.
