Tricycle Theatre call out for first-hand experiences of the London riots

  • Date: 18 October 2011
  • Area: London

This winter The Tricycle Theatre presents The Riots by Gillian Slovo, a play based on spoken evidence from this year's London riots.

The Tricycle are seeking first-hand accounts from people caught up in the events in Hackney, Tottenham or Enfield: those who have a story to tell or have strong views about the events. To contribute please phone 0800 652 7416. Anonymity is respected.

Gillian Solvo will also use Twitter postings from the night, as well as interviews with politicians, police and lawyers to paint a real-time picture of the riots as they unfolded.

The play is directed by Nicolas Kent in his last season at the Kilburn theatre, which ends his 28 year stint as Artistic Director. The Riots joins a long list of political plays produced by the Tricycle under Kent's direction. This includes the critically acclaimed Guantanamo - Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, which transferred from the Tricycle to the West End and New York and was performed at the Houses of Parliament and in Washington's Capitol Hill.
