Stroud International Textile Festival has been awarded a Gold Award in the Cotswold Tourism Awards 2010.
The Cotswolds Tourism Awards were launched this year and were decided by a panel of eminent judges. The awards cover the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean and are designed to highlight the successes and achievements of the past 12 months.
Lizzi Walton, Director of Stroud International Textiles said:
‘This is an acknowledgment of the hard work that the Textile Festival has made to maintain its reputation for excellence and the work to attract an audience from all over the UK and Europe. One of our aims has always been to attract visitors to the area and to support the local economy and we are therefore so excited to have this accolade.’
Stroud International Textiles aims to encourage debate and discussion around contemporary textiles and the crafts, encourage new ways of looking at and exploring textile design and textile art through events, exhibitions, talks, workshops, and debate while broadening it out to connect to other art disciplines. The organisation has received Arts Council funding through Grants for the arts.
An annual festival takes place every May which has built a reputation for delivering high quality, world class work and a stimulating programme. The International Festival and year round programme supports the cultural regeneration of Gloucestershire and is now a strong part of the creative industries for the county.
In 2011, the festival will take place from 30 April to 21 May. The programme is currently being planned and will include an expansion of the Student Collective where graduates from 2010 will exhibit work and new work will be created by Somerset University of Art & Design mixed media students. Details will be posted on the website as soon as they emerge alongside the Autumn Winter programme.
