The absolute beginner's guide to using social technologies Digital opportunity is one of the Arts Council's development priorities. In Yorkshire we are want to foster an arts sector that is digitally active and prepared for emerging opportunities.

We are holding free half-day seminars for arts organisations, providing clear information about how you can use social technologies to bring the work of your organisation to a larger audience.

Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Flickr: social technologies are constantly in the headlines. But what are they? How do they work? Who uses them?

Session 1: 9:30am - 1pm
Session 2: 1:30pm - 5pm
Venue: Lonsdale Community Centre, Hull

The seminars will offer you:

  • a plain English guide to leading and emergent social technologies

  • clear explanation of key concepts: Web 2.0, the Long Tail, User Generated Content, Mash-up and other terms defined

  • factual analysis on who uses social technologies, how they use them, and why you should use them

  • inspiring case studies of arts organisations already using social technologies in creative ways

  • practical ideas from leading arts and technology thinkers on how any arts organisation can expand its work into the social web

  • simple how-to’s for creating and running your own social networking spaces

  • learn with other arts professionals who share similar goals and challenges, and who have similar levels of experience


The seminars will be delivered by Steve Manthorp who has been conducting research for the Arts Council on the potential of social technologies for arts organisations.

 

Available free, for arts organisations in Yorkshire working across visual arts, performing arts and literature.
