SO Festival is back for 2011, and promises to be bigger and better than previous years. With funding from Arts Council England, it will offer a wide variety of arts and entertainment in Skegness during July.
A host of free activities will take place along the beach and Tower Gardens during the weekend of 22-24 July and will include street theatre, music and dance. SO has been chosen to première Games Time, a Community Celebration funded by the Legacy Trust UK, local authorities and the Arts Council. This will be a large scale, outdoor spectacular pushing the boundaries of art and entertainment.
Peter Knott, Regional Director of Arts Council England, said: 'I'm really proud that the SO festival continues to build momentum year on year. The Legacy Trust only awarded four Community Celebration Awards across the UK - Games Time is one of those and Skegness is the only place it can be seen during 2011.'
'SO festival takes the arts to the people, allowing them to experience the fantastic cultural provision available to them on their doorstep. It clearly demonstrates the value and impact the arts can have on the seaside town of Skegness, engaging audiences and offering them memorable experiences.'
Next year Games Time will travel to Loughborough, Northampton and Derby as part of a tour of the East Midlands to celebrate the countdown to London 2012. It will also be presented in London during the Olympic Games.
