Multistory.

Multistory, one of the UK's leading community arts agencies, located within the borough of Sandwell, has been awarded £329,404 from the Arts Council of England's Strategic Touring Programme 2012-14.

Open for Business will be the largely untold story of British manufacturing and industry through the lens of the world's greatest photographers. Multistory will work in partnership with Magnum Photos to commission 10 world-renowned Magnum photographers to document and record manufacturing industries in 10 British cities.  Multistory will work with 10 cultural partners to show the work in 10 venues and create a major touring exhibition of a 100 framed prints.  Open for Business will give people across the UK new access to great art and encourage them to engage with their local area.

Ros Robins, Regional Director Arts Council England said;

"The story of British manufacturing is a fascinating and largely untold one; Arts Council England is pleased to support Multistory in telling it in a unique and engaging way. The wide range of artists and venues involved in Open for Business means the work will reach new audiences and help them to engage in their local area in new ways."

Open for Business will focus on the historic industrial areas in the UK as well as new and innovative industries as we look to the future, seeking out success stories, large and small, that reflect Britain's changing industrial and cultural heritage. The programme will tell the story of British manufacturing, capturing the current landscape, good and bad, and its effect on people, community and culture through the unique international perspective of the Magnum photographers.

The photographers will also capture the everyday life of communities within the partner's unique location to create a local exhibition for each venue that will be placed within the context of the large- scale show. Through this imaginative approach to collective working, the 10 cultural partners will be able to create a unique portfolio of local work and connect to the work of 10 of the world's finest photographers.

Multistory and Magnum have secured partnerships with: the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) who will support us in making contact with manufacturing industries across the UK; with the Financial Times who will be our creative media partner; and with Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE), the UK's leading innovator in connecting culture and education.

Emma Chetcuti, Director of Multistory said;

"Multistory is absolutely delighted to have received this funding from
Arts Council England and we thank them for their continued support and
belief in the work we do. We are pleased to be working in partnership with
the renowned agency Magnum Photos and, through the association of some of the UK's
key cultural institutions, we believe this will be a landmark project with
national importance."
