National Portfolio-funded theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, has become the first ever cultural organisation to be awarded the top Industry Green rating for its commitment to environmental sustainability.
To be certified, an organisation must show continual improvement in its commitment to environmental sustainability as well as regularly report on its energy, waste, water, and travel.
Lyric Hammersmith has become the first cultural organisation to be awarded a three star certificate, the highest Industry Green rating.
Alison Tickell, Director, Julie's Bicycle said: '[Lyric Hammersmith's] commitment and success is exceptional. Sustainability is written into everything the Lyric does, across all departments and at every level. They are a wonderful example of the benefits to people and planet that can be enjoyed when sustainability is treated as a strategic priority.'
Arts Council England is committed in leading the arts and culture sector to become more environmentally sustainable, as outlined in our 10-year vision for the arts.
We are the first arts funder in the world to have embedded environmental measures into our funding programmes and contracts, and are working closely with Julie's Bicycle to provide the sector with practical tools, resources and support to become more environmentally sustainable.
