Arts Council England has awarded a £10,000 Lottery grant to Sandwell Council towards the third annual Sandwell Arts Festival.

The festival will be held from 11 to 19 August 2012 across the six towns of Sandwell - West Bromwich, Smethwick, Rowley Regis, Tipton, Wednesbury and Oldbury

The festival will include street performances, community events, workshops for individuals and a new commission of a procession telling the story of the mythical Sandwell Giant. In previous years the event has attracted around 15,000 visitors. It appeals to all age groups.

Welcoming the award, cabinet member for leisure services Councillor Linda Hortons said:"We and our partners are grateful for this Lottery grant as it will allow us to put on the best festival yet. It also encourages additional grants from other sources."

Anita Dinham, Arts Council England's Relationship Manager (Music) in the West Midlands, commented: "The funding will go some way in building on the good work past festivals have already achieved as well as supporting opportunities for people of Sandwell to engage in more arts activity."

Sandwell Council is working on the festival with organisations including Multistory, Black Country Touring, Parallel Arts, Sandwell Mind, Sandwell Primary Care Trust, The Public and Sandwell Third Age Arts.
