The London 2012 Festival, a 12 week UK-wide cultural celebration for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, launches today.

It’s the grand finale of the Cultural Olympiad that has been showcasing the very best of British creative talent and artistic excellence for the last four years, since London was awarded the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The festival will see over 25,000 artists from all 204 Olympic and Paralympic nations showcasing the world's best music, theatre, dance, visual art, literature, film and fashion in towns and cities across the country.

Arts Council England, a principal funder of the cultural celebrations for the London 2012 Games, have helped to shape a unique programme of arts and culture events for what is undoubtedly going to be a special summer.

The programme in the South East of England this summer includes opportunities to see ambitious new visual art works for the first time, to witness a wooden yacht crafted from stories sailing the South Coast, to visit museum exhibitions curated by young people, and experience large outdoor spectaculars, plays, concerts and carnivals, becoming part of many special events and moments for those of all ages - in celebration of London 2012.

With hundreds of events taking place this summer across the South East and thousands of events taking place across England, there really is something for everyone to get involved in.
