Lloyd Webber gives £3.5m to arts school

  • Date: 14 November 2011
  • Area: National

Andrew Lloyd Webber is to donate £3.5 million to help a west London arts education establishment.

The fee-paying Arts Educational Schools, in London, which counts Catherine Zeta Jones and Martin Clunes among its former pupils, provides arts-based education for children aged 11-18. It also teaches undergraduate and part-time courses.

Lord Lloyd Webber's gift will go towards overhauling the auditorium, building costume storage facilities, soundproof studios and editing rooms, and improving facilities for disabled students.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation awards 10 musical theatre scholarships each year for students to attend performing arts training institutions.

Lloyd Webber said he was delighted the foundation could make such a donation, adding the new facilities will be ideal for the students to use the 'exemplary training' for which the school is renowned.

Fundraising and match funding

Arts Council has developed a series of Catalyst Arts capacity building workshops to help arts organisations make a step change in existing fundraising and match funding activity.
