Now in its fourth year the 2014 Let’s Dance International Festival is set to launch on Tuesday 29 April in celebration of International Dance Day.
The festival will take place over 18 days across 10 venues with 111 artists coming from Argentina, Canada, China, Guadeloupe, Italy, Jamaica, Suriname, the UK and the USA.
The programme will open with an Urban Carnival atmosphere featuring chart topping singer/songwriter and rapper Angel and the joint forces of Hypnotick and Mahogany in ‘Possession: Affilia’s Return’, which combines acrobatic street dance with carnival costume and puppet creations.
The line-up will also showcase the UK debut of ‘Psychopomp and Pageantry’ by New York based company FuturPointe Dance. This blend of dance, video, text, visual and digital arts features sleight of hand artist Nickle Van Wormer and is choreographed by L’Antoinette Stines, N’Jelle Gage, Heather Roffe, and Guy Thorne.
Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “This year’s Let’s Dance International Festival will be a great opportunity for people across the Midlands and beyond to experience a wide-ranging and exciting line-up of performances by dancers, choreographers and musicians from all over the world. Whether you love dance and are a regular or you’re going to the festival for the first time, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
