What is the Arts Council's role with libraries?

Arts Council England plays a significant role in supporting and developing public libraries, while local government has the statutory responsibility for providing and funding library services under the 1964 Public Libraries and Museums Act.

The Arts Council's vision for libraries is that they inspire and empower people to lead active lives, enriched through cultural experience. The Arts Council is working with libraries to explore a vision for arts and culture working together.
