VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence celebrate the best of English tourism, helping to ensure England's place as a world-class destination.
The Large Visitor Attraction category is open to venues that welcome more than 50,000 visitors each year and looks at the overall quality of the experience people have during their visit.
The ten Ironbridge Gorge Museums are spread across six square miles of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site in Shropshire.
The area played a unique part in the history of England’s industrial revolution during the 18th and early 19th Century. Together, the museums at Ironbridge bring this history to life for visitors to experience first-hand.
In 2013 the museums attracted over half a million visitors from across England and further afield, immersing them in Shropshire’s cultural and industrial past.
“To have reached the shortlist of these highly regarded, national awards is a testament to the dedication of our team, many of whom are volunteers, and their passion towards achieving excellence,” said Anna Brennand, Chief Executive, Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.
